Heat Looking for a Point Guard

Pat Riley calls, the league will answer. Someone, anyone, will answer. Miami drafted Mario Chalmers in hopes of developing him into the next Rajon Rondo. Mr Big Shot, Mr NCAA Tournament. Those hopes are not coming true. It may be time to move on.

Carlos Arroyo has been the starter so far this year and will be for the foreseeable future. But that doesn't mean there isn't room to improve. Arroyo is high energy, but for Miami this year he needs to be a backup. With Mike Miller out and Eddie House the primary Shooting Guard backup, the point position needs to be able to shoot the lights out. And Chalmers just hasn't developed that three point range jumper.

Miami finds themselves bargain shopping. Looking at two teams that have recently made deals with Miami. Daniel "Boobie" Gibson and Jarret Jack. Gibson from Cleveland brings the much needed outside game that Miami is looking for. One problem is that Cleveland thinks they are a playoff team right now and Miami can not wow them with an offer. They can only offer Chalmers short term contract and 3 Million dollars in cash. Both Gibson and Jack come from teams that have recently let stars leave their city and sign in Miami. If their GM were to make such a deal to help Miami anymore, they may be the first GM of this NBA season to lose their job.

As Miami is already starting to gel as a team, it would be more fitting to add a point guard now to gel with them early on instead of waiting until the trade deadline this year. Chalmers has fallen out of favor with the old veterans of the team and the coaching staff. Look for a move in the next couple weeks.
